Kamala is a 28-year-old Sri Lankan woman
who is openly gay. She came out five years ago after
facing significant personal and societal challenges,
including strained family relationships and workplace
discrimination. Despite these difficulties, she now lives
openly and is a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ visibility in
Sri Lanka.
At a party, Kamala meets Wimala, a 30-year-old
woman with whom she shares an immediate and deep
emotional connection. Wimala is also Sri Lankan and
identifies as gay, but she has not come out to her
family, friends, or colleagues. She fears losing her job,
being rejected by her conservative family, and facing
possible social ostracization in her community.
